Osprey Farpoint 40 vs Cotopaxi Allpa 35L: Which Should You Buy?

The Farpoint costs roughly half as much as the Allpa. That is a significant gap for what are functionally similar bags at the category level. Unless you have a specific reason to need the Allpa’s features, the Farpoint delivers most of the same utility at a much lower price point.

This is the most important category for this site’s readers. The Farpoint’s 9.1-inch depth fails Ryanair’s 7.8-inch limit and is borderline for United and Delta’s 9-inch limit. The Allpa at 8.3 inches is narrower and its soft-sided construction compresses well enough to pass Ryanair with disciplined packing at 70-80% capacity. If you fly any European budget carriers, the Allpa gives you a fighting chance the Farpoint does not.

40L vs 35L. For most one-bag travelers, 5L is meaningful: it’s the difference between fitting a pair of shoes inside or leaving them out. The Farpoint handles 7-10 day trips more comfortably than the Allpa, which is better suited to shorter trips or travelers who pack very light.

The Allpa is significantly better organized. It has a dedicated shoe compartment, a side zip for direct laptop access without opening the main compartment, a front organization panel with multiple pockets, and water bottle pockets on both sides. The Farpoint has a clamshell main compartment and a single front pocket. If you care about finding things quickly without unpacking everything, the Allpa is the better choice.

Osprey borrowed suspension technology from their hiking packs. The Farpoint has a LightWire peripheral frame, a suspended mesh backpanel with airflow channel, and a padded hip belt that transfers weight off your shoulders. The Allpa has no hip belt and a simpler backpanel. For long airport walks or city exploration with a full bag, the Farpoint is noticeably more comfortable.

Both are built to last. The Farpoint uses 210D nylon ripstop with a reinforced 420HD base. The Allpa uses 1000D Cordura polyester, which is more abrasion-resistant but heavier. Both have lifetime warranties. The Allpa’s material is technically tougher, but the Farpoint’s warranty means Osprey will fix or replace it regardless of what happens. Call it a tie in practical terms.

Cotopaxi is B-Corp certified, uses repurposed materials in some products, and has a strong social mission. If ethical manufacturing matters in your buying decision, the Allpa is the clear choice. Osprey is a solid, well-regarded brand but does not carry equivalent certifications.
